The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of Alaska, are concerned about the lack of transparency in the release of voter data from the November 5, 2024, general election, particularly the second- and third-choice votes in the ranked-choice voting system.

Withholding this data contradicts the principles of transparency and accountability outlined in Alaska’s Public Records Act (AS 40.25).

As Alaskans, we have a right to access public records that inform our understanding of the electoral process. The public’s right to know is essential to maintaining trust in our democracy, especially in complex elections that use ranked-choice voting. Without access to this raw data, we are left in the dark about how second- and third-choice votes affect the outcome of congressional races and the integrity of the election process.

Our Request
We call on the Alaska Division of Elections to release the raw voter data from the November 5, 2024, general election, including second- and third-choice votes in the ranked-choice voting system.

Specifically, we request:

Immediate Release of Raw Voter Data
We urge the Division of Elections to release the raw election data, including second- and third-choice votes, to ensure transparency and public access to non-exempt records.

Timely Access for Campaigns and the Public
We call for the prompt release of the requested data so campaigns, analysts, and voters can fully assess the election results, including the impact of ranked-choice tabulation.

Future Transparency
We request that the Division of Elections commit to a clear, consistent process for releasing election data promptly in future elections, particularly those involving ranked-choice voting.

Conclusion
As Alaskans, we have the right to access public records and ensure that our elections are fair and transparent. The continued withholding of raw election data undermines public trust and prevents meaningful analysis of the election process. We urge the Alaska Division of Elections to release the requested data immediately and to commit to future transparency in Alaska’s elections.

Legal Basis
This petition is grounded in Alaska’s Public Records Act (AS 40.25), which ensures that public records held by state agencies, including the Division of Elections, are accessible unless exempted by law. The public has a right to know how second- and third-choice votes are allocated and how they affect election outcomes. Withholding this data prevents meaningful oversight.

By signing this petition, we call on the Alaska Division of Elections to fulfill its legal obligation to release the raw voter data from the November 2024 election and ensure ongoing transparency in all future elections.
